Q: What is a virtual Domain?
A: A virtual domain is the base URL of the domain name. Examples include yourdomain.com, Hostwire, and whg.org. Virtual domain names are not just limited to .com, .net, .org, or .edu domain extensions. International domain names are also virtual domain names, such as london.co.uk, deutchland.de, etc.
Q: What is a Top-Level-Domain (TLD)?
A: TLD stands for Top Level Domain. This includes any domain names which suffix is .com, .net, .org, or .edu. Therefore, international domain names are not TLD's.
Q: How do I purchase a virtual domain name from Hostwire?
A: To register a new domain name, simply visit the main page of Hostwire.com and enter the name you wish to register in the form provided. It's that simple. Our order process will guide you through the rest of the steps.
Q: Will I be able to access my domain name with or without the www?
A: Yes, all clients can access their website with and without the "www". In other words, you can access your website at www.yourdomain.com or just yourdomain.com, both of which are the same website. While this may seem somewhat unimportant, many would be surprised at how many people exclude the "www" and how many providers do not provide this service. Offering both options ensure you do not loose any visitors to your website as a result of this example of a common mistake.
Q: How do I check to make sure my desired domain name is not taken?
A: Our domain name search can check for domain name availability across over 150 different domain name extensions. It is obviously important that you not sign up for service under a domain name which is already in use unless it is already registered to you.
Q: What are the fees for a new domain name?
A: Domain name registration fees at Hostwire.com start at $9 for TLD's without any long term contract.
Q: Can I have multiple domains point to the same website?
A: Yes. This service is commonly referred to as "multiple domain name pointing" and allows you to have as many domain names as you wish point to the same website on your account. (additional fees may apply)
This should not be confused with having different domains point to different websites all on the same account, which is discussed below.
Q: Can I have multiple domains point to different directories on your account?
A: No. Hostwire does not provide this, although we do allow the use of .htaccess on some hosting plans to point to different directories on your account.
Q: How long does it take before my new domain name is active?
A: New registrations are generally ready within 24 to 72 hours.
